Interview with Kansas City Chiefs Photographer
The Kansas City Chiefs photographer has had a lot of experience covering football games, but he never expected to become part of the action on the field. That’s precisely what happened during a game against the Oakland Raiders in 2022 when a player collided while he was on the sidelines trying to capture the action.
The incident made headlines, and the player was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. But for the photographer, it was just another day on the job. “As a photographer, you must be prepared for anything,” he said. “I just tried to stay focused and keep shooting.”
Since that fateful game, he’s continued to work as a photographer for the Chiefs, covering all of their home games and traveling with the team to capture their most significant moments on and off the field. Despite the challenges of working in such a high-pressure environment, he says he loves every minute of it.
“I’ve always been passionate about photography, and being able to capture the energy and intensity of a football game is a dream come true,” he said. “I feel so fortunate to have this job and to be able to work with such talented athletes and coaches.”
He cites his love of capturing candid moments and the game’s emotion when asked about what inspires him as a photographer. “I try to get a mix of action shots and behind-the-scenes moments that show the personality of the players and coaches,” he said. “I want to tell their stories through my images.”
He also credits his colleagues and the Chiefs organization for supporting him and helping him grow as a photographer. “I’ve learned so much from my fellow photographers and the team’s PR staff,” he said. “They’ve helped me to hone my craft and push myself to be the best I can be.”
Looking back on the incident with the Raiders player, he says he doesn’t hold any grudges and is just grateful to have had the opportunity to continue doing what he loves. “I’m just happy to be able to be a part of such an amazing organization and to be able to capture all of the incredible moments that happen on and off the field,” he said. “It’s an honor to be a part of the Kansas City Chiefs family.”
